What exactly is “Team Coaching”?
Many of today’s leaders face a dilemma. As the need to build effective teams and develop the people on the team is increasing, the available time is often decreasing. A common challenge faced by today’s leaders is the necessity of doing both in an environment of rapid change with limited resources.
We work with the leader and the leader’s team to help them individually develop and implement a plan for personal development while simultaneously working together to take the team performance to a higher level of effectiveness.
Ideal teams for this process
Teams who meet the following criteria:
- Teams that have been together for at least 6 months and no one on the team is in danger of being “fired” or removed because of performance.
- They are currently working together effectively but feel like team performance can be lifted to a higher level. (This is not a process designed for dysfunctional teams.)
- Team members are interested in personal development and willing to work with an outside coach.
How We Do It
We use the Marshall Goldsmith Team Building Without Time Wasting process combined with individual coaching. Characteristics of the process include:
- Measurable outcomes regarding changes in both individual and team behaviors as determined in stakeholders at the end of the team coaching engagement
- A straightforward approach that does not require significant amounts of time on the part of the leader or the team members.
- Regular meetings with an outside coach combined with phone calls between face-to-face sessions
- Development of individual action plans for year-long personal development
- Educational workshops customized to address current organizational issues such as “Establishing and Maintaining Trust During Times of Change”

He helped them individually with their follow up outside the formal sessions. Finally, he presented to the full Texas Instruments Education Technology team of 350 people. He did a wonderful job of sharing research and putting the aspects of great leadership in front of the organization to move us ahead.
